The interview provides information and personal observations about Miller's experiences: growing up in the Eastern US, spending summers in NH; love of skiing; graduation from Philips Andover, acceptance at Harvard, decision to enlist in the 10th Mountain Division; hurt during skiing in the "D" series; recovery and arrival at Camp Swift; seasickness aboard the USS West Point in route to Italy; German resistance at Mt. Gorgolesco; being wounded at Mount della Spe; medical attention in the field and in the military hospital.

Carlton S. Miller was born on May 7, 1924 in N.Y. and enlisted in the Army on August 11, 1943 at Provident, R.I. At the time of his enlistment, he was unmarried, and had completed four years of high school. Millers joined the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colo. where he was assigned to Company B of the 85th Infantry Regiment. He also served at Camp Swift, Tex. before being sent to Italy.
